The MAX3243E belongs to Maxim Integrated’s advanced family of low-voltage RS-232 transceivers. Designed for demanding portable and embedded environments, it offers an impressive combination of power savings, electrical protection, and high-speed performance. Its innovative AutoShutdown™ technology automatically reduces supply current to approximately 1µA when an RS-232 cable is disconnected or inactive, dramatically extending battery life without requiring changes to system software.

With a dual-charge-pump architecture, the MAX3243E generates compliant RS-232 signal levels from a single 3.3V supply using only four small ceramic capacitors. The device supports data rates up to 250 kbps while meeting all RS-232 voltage and timing specifications, ensuring compatibility with modern and legacy serial equipment.

The integrated three drivers and five receivers provide a complete serial port interface. Two receivers remain active even when the device or system is powered down, ensuring safe monitoring of external devices without stressing protection diodes.
